A building management system (BMS) is a control system that is installed in buildings. It is used to monitor and manage the mechanical, electrical and electromechanical services such as power, heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, elevators, lights, fire and security systems.
It comprises of sensors, software and microprocessor- based controllers. The controllers work together in centralized PC- based operator interface.
One of the primary applications of BMS is HVAC Controls. Here’s how it works! There are DDC controllers connected to HVAC (heating, ventilating and air conditioning) devices. They receive inputs from the sensors and devices and perform a control logic which provides outputs to control the HVAC system devices. With this environmental conditions like temperature, air displacement speed, moisture and CO2 are monitored. Other applications include lighting controls, energy monitoring and access control.
